A 2K monitor is a 1440p QHD screen (2560 × 1440): sharper than 1080p and far easier to drive than 4K. This monitor comparison covers every one sold on Amazon.com by price, size, panel, refresh rate, response time, HDR and ports. For gaming, check refresh rate and panel first; for work, size and USB-C. Tick two to four models to compare monitors side by side.

Monitor comparison: how to compare 2K monitors

To compare monitors without getting lost in spec sheets, check the specs in this order:

  1. Size for your distance: 24" under 60 cm (24 in), 27" at 60 to 80 cm, 32" beyond 80 cm (32 in).
  2. Panel: IPS for color and viewing angles, VA for contrast and movies, OLED for true blacks and the fastest response.
  3. Refresh rate for your GPU: 60 to 100 Hz for work, 144 to 180 Hz for gaming, 240 Hz and up for competitive play.
  4. Response time: 1 ms or less if you game.
  5. Ports: DisplayPort for a PC, HDMI 2.1 for consoles and USB-C with charging for a laptop.

Price settles it among the ones that pass. In the table, tick 2 to 4 models with the box on their left and press Compare to see them side by side.

How to pick a 1440p gaming monitor for the money

A good value gaming monitor is not the cheapest one or the one with the biggest Hz number: it is the one your PC can actually use without paying for extras you will not notice. Use these criteria to filter the table and make your own call:

  • Refresh rate: 165 to 180 Hz is the sweet spot at 1440p. 240 Hz only pays off if your PC goes past 200 fps in your games.
  • Response time: 1 ms or less so fast motion does not smear.
  • Panel: fast IPS for color, VA for dark games and movies, OLED if the budget stretches.
  • Ports: DisplayPort 1.4 for a PC and HDMI 2.1 for consoles at 120 Hz.
  • Rating and sales: a reliability signal, not a verdict.

By budget, this is what the table shows today:

  • Under $200: IPS or VA at 165 to 180 Hz with 1 ms.
  • $200 to $300: 240 Hz and up, some with HDR 400 or 32 to 34 inch curved screens.
  • Over $300: OLED at 240 Hz or more with 0.03 ms response.

The «Best value gaming» chip above applies these criteria in one click; then sort by price and compare.

How to pick the best value monitor for work

For eight hours of text, code and spreadsheets you do not need to pay for Hz: sharpness, stable color and comfort matter more. The criteria:

  • IPS panel: stable color and viewing angles all day.
  • 27 inches if you sit 60 to 80 cm away: at 1440p text looks sharp at 100 % scaling.
  • 75 to 100 Hz: you notice it when scrolling; more adds nothing for office work.
  • USB-C with charging only if you work on a laptop: one cable for video, data and power.

By budget: under $150 you get 27 inch IPS screens at 75 to 120 Hz; USB-C with charging starts at about $170.

The «Best value» chip above applies these criteria in one click.

What is a 2K monitor? 2K vs 1440p vs QHD explained

On monitors, 2K, 1440p and QHD (Quad HD) all mean the same thing: a resolution of 2560 × 1440 pixels, four times the pixels of a 720p HD screen and 1.78 times those of Full HD. Strictly speaking, cinema 2K is 2048 × 1080, but the monitor industry settled on 2K for 1440p and that is what every listing below means.

WQHD is the same 2560 × 1440 with the "wide" spelled out, while UWQHD (3440 × 1440) and DQHD (5120 × 1440) keep the 1440-pixel height on wider 21:9 and 32:9 screens.

Standard 2560 × 1440 monitors1440p ultrawide monitors

2K vs 4K: which resolution you actually need

A 4K screen (3840 × 2160) has 2.25 times the pixels of 2K. On a 27" monitor that is 163 pixels per inch against 109: sharper text and more room for photo and video editing, but your graphics card has to push more than twice the pixels every frame.

For gaming, 2K is the sweet spot: a mid-range GPU holds 144 Hz or more at 1440p, while the same card struggles to hit 60 fps in 4K. Pick 4K if you mostly work with text, spreadsheets or photos and rarely play; pick 2K if you want high refresh rates without paying for a flagship GPU.

2K monitors from 144 Hz

27-inch 2K monitors

27 inches is the size 2K was made for: from 24 to 32 inches away, text looks crisp at 100% scaling with no need to zoom the interface. It is also where most models live, including nearly every IPS and OLED panel from 144 to 360 Hz, which makes it the default pick for a monitor you both work and play on.

See 27-inch 2K monitors

32-inch and 24-inch 2K monitors

At 31.5–32 inches, 2K drops to about 92 pixels per inch: everything looks bigger, but text gets softer up close, so sit at least 32 inches away. Many are curved VA panels with strong contrast for movies and games, and they are the budget alternative to a 32" 4K when your GPU cannot keep up.

At 23.8–24.5 inches, the same resolution climbs to about 122 pixels per inch: very sharp text on a small desk, and a favorite for esports players who want the whole screen in view.

2K OLED monitors

On an OLED every pixel lights itself, so it can switch off completely: true black, near-infinite contrast and a 0.03 ms response time that wipes out motion blur. At 1440p there are two families, QD-OLED and WOLED, and almost all of them run at 240 Hz or faster.

The trade-offs: they cost more, get dimmer on full-screen white pages and can show burn-in from static elements left on screen for hours. They ship with panel-care routines, and it is worth checking whether the warranty covers burn-in before you buy.

2K monitors at 144Hz and 240Hz

144Hz is where gaming monitors start: motion looks far smoother than at 60Hz, and any current mid-range graphics card gets there at 1440p. The 165, 170 and 180Hz models in between cost about the same and are worth taking if the price is right.

240Hz is for competitive shooters, and it only pays off if your PC renders more than 200 frames per second in those games; paired with OLED or a 1 ms panel is where the difference shows most. Consoles top out at 120Hz, so for a PS5 or Xbox Series X a 144Hz monitor already covers everything.
